Get Fit in Fall

Many people wait until the end of the year to make promises to themselves that they will get healthier and fitter, but fail to follow through. Why wait for a new year to set new goals, when you can start fresh at the new season. With fall coming, it is a perfect time to start a new fitness journey, just in time to create new habits for the holiday season and winter. So why wait? Here are a few ways you can make the most of fall.

Enjoy The Weather
Fall is often the perfect balance between too hot and too cold that will allow you to exercise outside. When taking your exercising outside, you are also treating your senses to fresh, crisp air; crunchy leaves and bright colors all around you. There are plenty of activities that you can do to take in this new scenery, going from the simple walking or cycling, to trying your hand at a new sport such as skating. If you have a dog or children, it is also a great opportunity to get the whole family out and have fun.

Eat Autumn Colours
The new season brings an influx of new, seasonal vegetables, that are vibrantly colored, so why not dish up the color. From now to the end of November, there’s a big variety in season, including; blackberries, squash and pumpkins, carrots, kale, purple sprouting broccoli, spinach and many more. With plenty of root vegetables on offer, try and replace ordinary fries with parsnip, carrots and sweet potato wedges. They are delicious and super-easy to make. If you’re looking for a sweeter dish, you can get the family out to go apple or blackberry picking and come home and make a homemade crumble, warming you when the evening gets a bit chillier.

Sign Up For A Program
When the children go back to school, many clubs and gyms start up new programmes. When the children go back to learning, remember, you should never stop learning and this can be prime opportunity for you to learn something new. If you’ve ever wanted to learn to dance, boxing or fencing, give it a try. Most gyms and clubs also have introductory discounts, so why not enquire about the activities available to you. The best thing is, most of their classes are indoors so you don’t have to let the chilly weather stop you achieving your goals.

The summer is over and now the dark evenings are closing in, it is important to find the motivation to continue a regular fitness regime. Low mood, lack of motivation and low energy can cause people to hang up their gym kit for summer, but by starting a now and continuing, you can beat the winter blues and protect against the low mood and energy. By starting now and implementing good habits, when the weather cools down you can bring your workouts inside for a new, fresh spin on exercise. Not to mention you can burn off a few extra calories from all the holiday-season food.
